Desmond Kelly, MD

Dr. Kelly is Medical Director of the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of the Greenville Health System in Greenville, South Carolina, and is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.  He is also Program Director of the DeLoache Fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics of the Children’s Hospital.

He received his medical training at the University of Cape Town in South Africa and also trained in England before doing his pediatric residency at the Southern Illinois University School o fMedicine and fellowship training at the University of  Maryland School of Medicine and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. 

Dr. Kelly is a member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and serves on the Sub-board of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics of the American Board of Pediatrics which is responsible for assessing the training and knowledge of specialists in his field prior to their board certification. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and a past member of the Executive Committee of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

He has written research and review articles and chapters for textbooks in general pediatrics and developmental pediatrics and his research interests are in developmental assessment, learning and attention disorders,autism and hearing impairment. 

His current efforts are focused on expansion of the Children’s Hospital Autism Program and on regional and national projects and programs to promote healthy child development through the early identification of developmental problems and linkage of children and families with needed therapeutic and educational resources.
