Asthma Program at Center for Pediatric Medicine

Asthma is the most common serious chronic disease of childhood and can significantly impact quality of life for the whole family with missed school and work days, difficulty with physical activity, and exacerbations resulting in Emergency Department visits and/or hospitalizations. In infants and children, asthma may present as wheezing, difficult to control coughing, rapid or labored breathing, chest pain, or just decreased energy. Some children have symptoms only when exercising or playing a sport.

Our award-winning, multidisciplinary, family-centered asthma program provides education to families about evidence-based asthma care as well as medical treatment, case management, environmental control home visits and teaches self management skills for children and teens with asthma. We also work closely with many hospital and community partners including Pediatric Pulmonology, Pediatric Allergy/Immunology, Pediatric Sleep Medicine, school nurses and Family Connection Project Breathe Easy.

Patients are often referred for asthma specialty care for initial diagnosis, concern for co-morbid conditions (such as allergic rhinitis, obstructive sleep apnea, GERD or obesity), difficulty in obtaining good asthma control, or need for additional testing. Through the CPM Asthma program, we are able to provide asthma related sick and maintenance care with plans and teachings tailored to each patient.

Family Connection Project Breathe Easy

A free and confidential program for families who have children with asthma. This award-winning program provides emotional and informational support to parents who have children with asthma.
